Mars Hill Women's Basketball Gets By L-R, 87-79, In Overtime

Mars Hill, N.C. - The Mars Hill College Women's Basketball Team (5-1, 1-0) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-3, 1-1), 87-79, in overtime in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Stanford Arena.

Mars Hill's Brittini Young (Ramseur, N.C.) finished with a team-high 23 points and went 12-of-12 from the free throw line as the Lady Lions won their fourth straight contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne was paced by junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.), who led all scorers with 30 points.? Sealey?hit all 11 free throw attempts as well and was one off tying her career-high in the losing effort.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which rallied from a 13-point deficit just after intermission (44-31), trailed the entire second half before three free throws by Sealey with four seconds remaining forced overtime tied at 72.

Mars Hill then took control again with six straight points to start the extra frame, all free throws, and never saw its lead go under four points the rest of the way.

The Lady Lions' Kristen Metcalf (Black Mountain, N.C.) added 19 points off the bench, including seven in overtime, to key the win.?

Taylor Deal (Catawba, N.C.) chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds for Mars Hill, who limited L-R to just 34 percent (21-of-62) shooting for the contest.

Freshman forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) and sophomore forward Precious Elkins (Conyers, Ga.) finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne will next compete again on Thursday, December 16, when it hosts USC Aiken beginning at 2 p.m.? Mars Hill hosts Anderson in a league contest next Saturday at 2 p.m.
