Greeneville, Tenn. ? The Tusculum College Men?s Basketball Team (12-8, 6-3) won its fourth straight game with a 61-56 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (3-16, 1-8) Monday evening in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Pioneer Arena.
Tusculum?s Kyle Moore (Gainesville, Fla.) led the way with a game-high 31 points including nine three-pointers while Josh Bennett (Snow Hill, Md.) added 11 points and 10 rebounds in sending L-R to its eighth straight loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) finished with a game-high 16 points and was one of three Bears to score in double figures but L-R couldn?t avenge an earlier, 27-point defeat (74-47) to Tusculum on January 2, 2010, in Hickory, N.C.
L-R was able to take a 28-25 lead into halftime despite seven treys and 21 points from Moore.
Tusculum also finished 13-of-13 (100 percent) from the free throw line including Bennett?s pair with 6:20 left that gave the Pioneers the lead for good? at 45-44.
Lenoir-Rhyne would get to within one point on three more occasions but Tusculum sealed the contest with eight free throws in the final 1:21.
Sophomore guard Jon Hathcock (Concord, N.C.) and sophomore forward Jeff Thomas (Durham, N.C.) added 11 and 10 points, respectively, despite the setback for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Brevard in a South Atlantic Conference contest on Wednesday beginning at 8 p.m.? Tusculum, meanwhile, visits Lincoln Memorial for a league game on Wednesday at 8 p.m., as well.
