Harrogate, Tenn. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Basketball Team (17-6, 10-3) moved into sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 72-58 win over Lincoln Memorial University (8-15, 5-8) Saturday evening at Tex Turner Arena.

L-R senior center Denise Moore (Newport News, Va.) led all scorers with 21 points and became the 16th player in school history to score 1,000 points in her career.

Bear senior guard Jami Safrit (Hickory, N.C.) added a double-double (17 points and 11 rebounds) while junior guard LaCourtney Rann (Charlotte, N.C.) also scored in double figures with 10 points as Lenoir-Rhyne won its fourth straight game.

Lincoln Memorial was led by Carolyn Mills (Nashville, Tenn.), who finished with a team-high 19 points, while Amberly O?Dell (Argos, Ind.) added 15 points and five three-pointers despite the setback for the Lady Railsplitters.

After Mills gave Lincoln Memorial a 43-33 lead on a trey with 15:53 remaining, Lenoir-Rhyne put together a 22-2 run over the next four-plus minutes for a 55-45 advantage capped off by a field goal by Moore with 11:19 left in the contest.

A 7-0 Lady Railsplitter run cut the margin to 58-54 at the 7:15 mark of the second half, but the Bears responded once again and a 12-2 run finished off by a three-pointer from Safrit gave L-R a 70-56 lead that put the contest away.

L-R, which beat Lincoln Memorial for the fifth straight time, limited the Lady Railsplitters to just 36 percent (20-of-56) shooting for the game.

Newberry, which entered the day tied with Lenoir-Rhyne for the lead in the SAC standings, was idle.

Lenoir-Rhyne is off until next Saturday when it faces Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., beginning at 2 p.m.? Lincoln Memorial, meanwhile, hosts Catawba on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
