Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Blows Past Brevard, 74-49

Hickory, N.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Basketball Team (14-6, 7-3) rolled past Brevard College (7-13, 1-9), 74-49, on Wednesday?at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? Senior guard?Jami Safrit (Hickory, N.C.), who?tallied eight points and a game-high nine rebounds and six assists, crossed the 1,000-point mark in her career.

Senior guard?Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.)?scored a game-high 14 points to lead L-R, who snapped a two-game losing streak in the process.

Senior forward?Jacquelyn Kremer (Sevierville, Tenn.), senior center?Denise Moore (Newport News, Va.)?and senior guard?Brittany Mitch (McLean, Va.)?chipped in nine points apiece for the Bears in the victory.

Brevard was led by Samantha Winn (Candler, N.C.), as she tallied nine points despite the loss.

L-R never trailed?in the game?as it jumped out to a 23-9 lead?capped off by a layup from Moore with 9:35 remaining in the first half.?

The Bears, who have won 13 straight South Atlantic Conference Regular Season games at home,?took a 37-18 lead into the locker room?after Mitch made one-of-two free throws with just under a minute remaining.

L-R led by as many as 29 points (72-43)?in the second half when senior guard?Meredith Webster (High Point, N.C.) drained her second trey of the game with 1:50 remaining?in the contest.

L-R won the battle on the boards, 43-28, and shot 43 percent (24-of-56) from the field compared to just 31 percent (13-of-42) by Brevard.

The Bears, 7-0 at home this year,?are currently ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Poll.

L-R will continue South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday as it will host first-place Newberry at 6:00 p.m., in Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? Brevard takes on Lincoln Memorial in Brevard, N.C., on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
