Hickory, N.C. ?? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (5-1, 2-0) remained undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play with a 3-1 win over Mars Hill College (3-2, 0-2) Friday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Bears prevailed after winning by scores of 27-29, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-22.
Sophomore setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) led the way with a double-double (a match-high 54 assists and 13 digs) as the Bears rallied after losing the first set to win three in a row to take the victory.
Two more Lenoir-Rhyne players finished with double-doubles as junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Statesville, N.C.) tallied a match-high 17 kills and 13 digs and junior outside hitter Lindsey Cantu (Orlando, Fla.) put together a 12-kill, 13-dig performance.
For Mars Hill, Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) tallied a team-high 14 kills and Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) finished with 43 assists and 12 digs despite the setback.
L-R also finished with 11 blocks and hit .302 as a team while four Bears tallied 12 or more kills in the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne will face Tusculum (4-2, 2-0) in a match of South Atlantic Conference unbeatens on Saturday at home beginning at 2 p.m.? Mars Hill, meanwhile, travels to Brevard, N.C., to play SAC-foe Brevard (2-4, 0-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
