Junior libero Marrissa Church led Lenoir-Rhyne with 10 digs despite a 3-0 setback to Newberry in a league match Friday on the road.

Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry College Volleyball Team (8-3, 1-1) swept a South Atlantic Conference match from Lenoir-Rhyne University (5-3, 2-2), 3-0, Friday evening at Eleazer Arena in Newberry, S.C.? Newberry defeated Lenoir-Rhyne by scores of 27-25, 25-19 and 25-14.

Newberry was led by Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) and Anne Staudinger (Fort Wayne, Ind.) with 15 and 11 kills, respectively, while Brianna Blakely (Houston, Texas) added a match-high 35 assists in the victory.

Newberry also hit .391 to go along with eight service aces for the match.

For Lenoir-Rhyne, junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Statesville, N.C.) led the Bears with a team-high six kills while sophomore setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) dished out 23 assists in the setback.? Junior libero Marrissa Church (Statesville, N.C.) added?10 digs for L-R, who suffered its second straight league loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Anderson, S.C., to face Anderson in a league match on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.? Newberry, meanwhile, hosts SAC-rival Brevard Saturday at 2 p.m., as well.
