Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (6-6, 3-4) swept a South Atlantic Conference match from Catawba College (5-6, 2-5), 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Bears, who prevailed by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 27-25, snapped a five-match losing streak in the process.
Junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.) led the Bears with a match-high 10 kills while junior libero Marrissa Church (Statesville, N.C.) tallied 19 digs as Lenoir-Rhyne rallied from a 22-13 deficit in the third set to take the sweep from the Indians.
L-R sophomore setter Cristin Owens (Hendersonville, N.C.) chipped in with 14 assists and eight digs as the Bears moved back to .500 on the season.
Catawba was led by Shay Meeks (Kings Mountain, N.C.) with six kills and Alli Parrish (Zebulon, N.C.) with seven assists and five digs in the losing effort.
Lenoir-Rhyne next competes on Friday when it travels Harrogate, Tenn., to face Lincoln Memorial University in a conference match at 6:30 p.m.? Catawba plays Montevallo (3 p.m.) and Augusta State (5 p.m.) next Saturday in Augusta, Ga.
