Winter Park, Fla. ?? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Soccer Team (6-1) increased its winning streak to five with a 5-4 victory over Saint Leo University (3-4) Sunday afternoon at the Tars Invitational on the campus of Rollins College.
Senior defender Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) scored twice for the?third time in a match this year to go along with an assist as the Bears rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit for the victory.
Junior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) opened the scoring for the Bears in the 15th minute after finishing off a cross from junior?midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Holt, who where both credited with the assist.
From there, Saint Leo reeled off three straight goals including two by Pia Soesemann (Berlin, GERMANY) for a 3-1 advantage entering intermission.
After the break, Lenoir-Rhyne took a complete control with four consecutive goals within a 13-minute span.? A header by Holt cut the margin to 3-2 at the 48:43 mark of the second half before junior midfielder Kaelia Frazier (Cedar Falls, Iowa) tied the contest with her first goal of the year in the 54th minute.
L-R took the lead for good when junior All-American midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) took hold off a loose ball right in front of the net and scored for the game-winner at 57:42.
Holt tallied the Bears? fifth and final goal, unassisted, in the 62nd minute.? Holt now has a team-leading seven goals on the year.
Saint Leo?s Chrissy Darwell (Cranston, R.I.) made it 5-4 with a goal with just under 18 minutes remaining but L-R was able to hold on for the win.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Ingram (Buford, Ga.) picked up the win as she finished with six saves for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne faces Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference showdown next Saturday at home beginning at 5:00 p.m.? In the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings, the Bears are in sixth place.? Saint Leo hosts Barry (Fla.) next Saturday at 7 p.m.
