L-R Volleyball Opens The 2010 Season With A Pair Of Wins At The Catawba College Invitational Friday

Salisbury, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (2-0) opened the 2010 season with a pair of wins over Shippensburg, 3-2, and Armstrong Atlantic State, 3-1, Friday at the Catawba College Invitational Tournament at Goodman Gymnasium.

Lenoir-Rhyne 3, Shippensburg 2 (25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 16-25 and 15-7)
Junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Statesville, N.C.) finished with a team-high 11 kills while sophomore setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) added 21 assists and junior libero Marrissa Church (Statesville, N.C.) tallied 10 digs to lead the Bears to the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne 3, Armstrong Atlantic State 1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-16)
Christenbury finished with a team-high 13 kills and 14 digs as the Bears rallied from a game down to win the final three sets in taking the win.? Lutz (26 assists), Church (16 digs) and freshman setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.), who added 17 assists and 11 digs, paced Lenoir-Rhyne to victory as well.

Despite the loss, Armstrong Atlantic State's Torrie Bevolo (St. Louis, Mo.) registered a double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs (both team-highs).

Box Score

Lenoir-Rhyne faces Lander (11:30 a.m.) and Elizabeth City State (3:30 p.m.) Saturday on the final day of the Catawba College Invitational Tournament.
