The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (4-1, 1-0) opened South Atlantic Conference play with a 3-2 win over Brevard College (2-3, 0-1) Tuesday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Bears, who were also playing their first home match of the year, won by scores of 24-26, 25-13, 25-18, 22-25 and 15-9.
Junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Statesville, N.C.) led the way for the Bears as she finished with a match-high 17 kills while junior middle blocker Chelsea Hill (Lexington, N.C.) added 13 kills en route to the win.
L-R freshman setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) added nine kills, 25 assists and eight digs and sophomore setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) finished with a team-high 29 assists.
Brevard?s Kortney Conner (Franklin, N.C.) led the Tornados with nine kills and Bethany Stevenson (Prattville, Ala.) added 31 assists despite the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home on Friday when it hosts Mars Hill in a league contest beginning at 7 p.m.?
Brevard, meanwhile, returns home to face Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference match at 7 p.m., on Friday as well.
