Brevard, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Basketball Team (6-7, 3-2) came from behind in the second half to defeat Brevard College (5-11, 1-5), 70-65, Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference game at Boshamer Gymnasium.
L-R junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led all scorers with 22 points as the Bears improved their all-time mark against the Tornados to 10-0.
Sophomore forward Precious Elkins (Conyers, Ga.) added a career-high 19 points for Lenoir-Rhyne, who rallied from a 62-56 deficit with just over four minutes remaining to take the win.
After Brevard took the six-point, second-half advantage on a field goal by Michaela Watkins (Forest City, N.C.) with 4:17 left, Lenoir-Rhyne reeled off 14 straight points for a 70-62 lead with just three seconds left.
Watkins, who led the Tornados with 15 points, hit a three-pointer as time expired to make it a five-point final.
L-R freshman guard Caroline Laughter (Hickory, N.C.) chipped in with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds while the Bears held a 47-23 advantage on the boards in the victory.
Brevard also received 11 points from Anna Schlobohm (Greensboro, N.C.) and hit nine three-pointers on the afternoon despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference contest Monday at 2 p.m.? Brevard, meanwhile, travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to face league-foe Lincoln Memorial Wednesday at 6 p.m.
