L-R Women's Basketball Prevails In Overtime, 74-73, Over Lincoln Memorial On A Last-Second Shot

Hickory, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne freshman forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) hit the game-winning field goal?as time ran out?in overtime to defeat Lincoln Memorial, 74-73, in a South Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Saturday at Shuford Gymnasium.

Lenoir-Rhyne evened its record on the year to 8-8 and improved to 5-3 in league play while Lincoln Memorial fell to 8-8 and 3-5, respectively.

L-R junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led all scorers with 20 points and hit a running field goal in the lane as time expired in the second half to force overtime tied at 66.

Chelsea Craig (Frankfort, Ky.) finished with a team-high 15 points off the bench while Patrice Talley (Easley, S.C.) and Dayshalee Salaman (Carolina, PUERTO RICO) added 12 points each for Lincoln Memorial, who saw its three-game winning streak snapped.

The contest was close throughout, with nine ties and 17 lead changes, and the Bears were able to rally from an eight-point deficit (53-45) with 7:54 left in the second half to pick up the win.

The Lady Railsplitters also held a 73-70 lead at the 1:29 mark of the overtime thanks to a pair of free throws by Craig but a lay-up by freshman forward Alexis Katt (Euharlee, Ga.) and Brinkley's last second shot proved to be the game-winner for the Bears.

Brinkley and Katt finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while sophomore forward Precious Elkins (Conyers, Ga.) added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds for L-R.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Greeneville, Tenn., to?play Tusculum in a league contest Wednesday at 6 p.m.? Lincoln Memorial, meanwhile, faces Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., on the road Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m., as well.
