Hickory, N.C. - The No. 10 Lincoln Memorial Men's Basketball Team (16-0, 8-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 55-34 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (2-14, 1-7) Saturday evening in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
Lincoln Memorial's D'Mario Curry (Detroit, Mich.) led the way with a game-high 14 points for the Railsplitters, who held the Bears to their lowest point total since a 34-32 defeat to High Point during the 1980-81 season.
Lenoir-Rhyne, who did not have a player score in double figures, was led by freshman guard Bryce Hawkins (Charlotte, N.C.) with?eight points.
Lincoln Memorial jumped out to an 18-4 lead on a lay-up by Desmond Johnson (Lynch, Ky.) with 11:35 remaining in the first half but L-R slowly crawled back in the contest and cut the margin to 22-16 at intermission.
However, consecutive baskets by Vincent Bailey (Jennings, Fla.) to start the second half pushed the Railsplitters' lead back to double digits (26-16) and L-R couldn't get any closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Lincoln Memorial, which held Lenoir-Rhyne without a field goal for close to 13 minutes during one stretch, led by as many as 25 points.
Bailey and Johnson added 10 points each for the Railsplitters, who also limited the Bears to just 29 percent shooting (11-for-38) for the game.
Lenoir-Rhyne held Lincoln Memorial to its lowest point total of the season but it wasn't nearly enough as the Bears lost their eighth straight game.
L-R freshman forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) added seven points but saw his double-double streak snapped at four.
In South Atlantic Conference games on Wednesday, Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Tusculum on the road while Lincoln Memorial visits Carson-Newman.? Both contests are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
