Anderson, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Basketball Team (5-6, 2-1) ended a five-game losing skid with a 66-61 win over Anderson University (6-5, 2-1) Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference contest at the Abney Athletic Center.
Junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led all scorers with 20 points including 16 in the first half while freshman forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) added 15 points to lead the Bears to the win.
Anderson's Alissa Diaz (Coral Springs, Fla.) came off the bench to score a team-high 17 points despite the setback for the Trojans.
Anderson rallied from a 9-2 deficit just 2:35 into the contest to take a 33-31 lead into intermission.
Late in the second half, Lenoir-Rhyne surged back ahead and held a 60-55 advantage on a three-point play by Brinkley with 3:45 remaining in the contest.
However, Anderson responded with six straight points capped off with a jumper by Diaz with 1:37 left for a 61-60 lead.
L-R sophomore guard Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) then hit the game-winning shot with 43 seconds left for a 62-61 Bear advantage which proved to be the game-winner.
Four more free throws rounded out the scoring for the Bears, who held the Trojans to just 38 percent shooting (20-of-53) for the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.? Anderson, meanwhile, hosts league-foe?Catawba Saturday at 2 p.m.
