Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Downs Brevard, 3-1, For Its Fifth Straight Win

Freshman middle blocker Haley Rhyne finished with 14 kills and 10 digs to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 3-1 win over Brevard in a South Atlantic Conference Thursday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (16-9, 8-6) made it five wins in a row with a 3-1 victory over Brevard College (4-18, 0-14) Thursday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Bears won by scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-21.

Senior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.) led the Bears with a match-high 17 kills to go along with 20 digs while freshman middle blocker Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) added 14 kills and 10 digs.

Sophomore setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) and junior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.)?were the third and fourth?Lenoir-Rhyne players with double-doubles.?

Burton (26 assists and 10 digs) and Lutz (26 assists and 11 digs) helped the Bears complete the season sweep of the Tornados.

Finally, L-R freshman return specialist Emily Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) tallied a match-high 27 digs as well in the victory.

For Brevard, Jamie Atkinson (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Ashlie Morrison (Denver, Colo.) each totaled 10 kills while Bethany Stevenson (Prattville, Ala.) led the Tornados with 26 assists and 19 digs despite the setback.

Lenoir-Rhyne next plays Montevallo (11:00 a.m.) and Limestone (1:00 p.m.) on Saturday in Gaffney, S.C.? Brevard returns home to take on Converse (11:00 a.m.) and Johnson C. Smith (3:00 p.m.) Saturday as well.
