Mars Hill, N.C. - The Mars Hill College Volleyball Team (7-5, 4-5) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University (11-8, 3-5), 3-1, in a South Atlantic Conference match Tuesday night at Stanford Arena. The Lions defeated the Bears by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-27 and 25-21 to win their third straight match.
Mars Hill was led by Marissa Wixson (Spring, Texas), who tallied a double-double on the night with 13 kills and 17 digs.
Chelsea Larsen (Greer, S.C.) added 10 kills and Maggie Murphy (Richmond, Va.) tallied a match-high 27 digs for the Lions, who held a 12-2 advantage in service aces en route to the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior middle blocker Chelsea Hill (Lexington, N.C.) finished with a match-high 15 kills despite the loss.
Meanwhile, junior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) chipped in with 24 assists and sophomore return specialist Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) added a double-double (12 assists and 11 digs) for the Bears as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference match on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. Mars Hill plays at Brevard in a league contest Friday at 7 p.m., as well.
