Greenwood, S.C. - The Lander University Men's Basketball Team (7-2) downed Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-7), 68-54, Friday afternoon on the final day of the Bearcat Holiday Classic at Horne Arena.
David Pruett (Sugar Hill, Ga.) led the way with a game-high 17 points in addition to nine rebounds and was one of four Bearcats to score in double figures.? Corey Wright (Harlem, N.Y.) added 13 points as Lander won its fourth consecutive game.
Sophomore guard Hunter McClintock (Durham, N.C.) led Lenoir-Rhyne with 16 points and hit four three-pointers while senior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) added a double-double - 14 points and 10 rebounds - in the loss.
Lander held a 43-40 lead with 10:06 remaining in the contest after Blackmon hit a pair of free throws for Lenoir-Rhyne before the Bearcats broke the contest open with a 19-4 run.?
Pruett hit a free throw at the 3:02 mark of the second half to give Lander a 62-44 lead, its biggest of the game.
Lander held a 42-25 edge in rebounds while shooting 75 percent (18-of-24) from the free throw line en route the victory.? The Bearcats hit 17-of-22 free throw attempts?after halftime as well.
L-R freshman guard Denzel Dillingham (Hickory, N.C.) also scored in double figures as he finished with 10 points to go along with five assists but the Bears suffered their second consecutive setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Anderson at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 8 p.m.? Lander plays host to Flagler in a Peach Belt Conference contest on Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m.
