Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Takes Down Carson-Newman, 71-64

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Precious Elkins finished with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in a 71-64 league road win Saturday against Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Basketball Team (12-10, 9-5) pulled out a 71-64 win over Carson-Newman College (10-14, 6-8) Saturday evening at Holt Fieldhouse in South Atlantic Conference action.

L-R sophomore forward Precious Elkins (Conyers, Ga.) finished with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds while junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led all scorers with 17 points to key the Bears' win.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore guard Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 16 points as the Bears jumped out to an 18-point lead (51-33) with 12:52 left in the second half and held on for the win.

Zoriah Williams (Calera, Ala.) finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds for Carson-Newman, who cut the deficit to 63-57 with 2:44 left but the Bears kept the Lady Eagles at bay the rest of the way.

L-R freshman forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) added 10 points for the Bears, who finished with four players in double figures and held a 60-41 advantage in rebounding.

Carson-Newman's Shannon Depew (Newport, Tenn.) also tallied a double-double (16 points and 10 rebounds) to go along with six blocked shots but the Lady Eagles hit just 21 percent (seven-for-34) of their shots in the first half in falling behind by a 33-19 score entering break.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba next while Carson-Newman hosts?Mars Hill?in its next league contest.? Both games are scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
