Lincoln Memorial Deals Lenoir-Rhyne An 81-77 Setback In Women's Basketball

Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Cameron Sealey led the Bears with 19 points in an 81-77 loss to Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday in Harrogate, Tenn.

Harrogate, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial University Women's Basketball Team (10-16, 5-13) ended its season on a strong note with an 81-77 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (14-12, 11-7) Saturday evening in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Tex Turner Arena.

Lincoln Memorial's Dayshalee Salaman (Carolina, Puerto Rico) led all scorers with 24 points while Whitney Holmes (Oklahoma City, Okla.) added 19 points as the Lady Railsplitters built an 18-point lead early in the second half and held on for the win.

Junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) was the lone player to score in double figures for the Bears as she finished with 19 points in L-R's second straight loss.

A field goal by Holmes with 17:28 remaining gave Lincoln Memorial a 49-31 advantage but Lenoir-Rhyne, behind Sealey (14 second-half points), began a long run and eventually took the lead.

A free throw by sophomore guard Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) with 2:08 left put L-R ahead at 74-72 but Holmes tied it with two from the charity stripe and Salaman's lay-up at the 1:32 mark in the second half gave the Lady Railsplitters the lead (76-74) for good.

Sophomore guard Caroline Laughter (Hickory, N.C.) cut the margin to 78-77 with a three-pointer for L-R but Lincoln Memorial iced the contest by making three free throws in the final 29 seconds.

Culler and freshman forward Quay Barrino (Charlotte, N.C.) each scored nine points for the Bears, who shot just 38 percent (24-for-63) for the contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne is guaranteed the third seed in the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament and will face sixth-seeded Carson-Newman (13-15) Wednesday at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium in the quarterfinals beginning at 7 p.m.? The league will announce tournament pairings on Sunday.
