Catawba Volleyball Shuts Out Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-0

Senior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury led Lenoir-Rhyne with 10 kills in a 3-0 loss to Catawba in its South Atlantic Conference opener Tuesday evening at Goodman Gymnasium in Salisbury, N.C.

Salisbury, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (5-4, 0-1) fell to Catawba College (7-2, 2-1), 3-0, Tuesday evening in its South Atlantic Conference opener at Goodman Gymnasium.

The Indians downed the Bears by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-19.

Catawba's Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, Va.) led the way with a match-high 17 kills while Jordan Raye (Boonville, N.C.) dished out 35 assists in the win.

Jenny Young (Roanoke, Va.) added 21 digs for the Indians, who finished with a .336 hitting percentage in the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite a team-high 10 kills and 11 digs from senior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.) while junior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) tallied a double-double (11 assists and 12 digs) as well.

Sophomore setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) was a third player with a double-double for the Bears, finishing with a team-high 18 assists to go along with 11 digs but L-R was also?done in by 10 service aces by the Indians.

Lenoir-Rhyne faces Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference contest Friday at 7 p.m., in its home opener at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? Catawba hosts league-rival Mars Hill Friday at 7 p.m., as well.
