Greeneville, Tenn. - The Tusculum College Volleyball Team (10-3, 3-2) swept Lenoir-Rhyne University (7-5, 2-2), 3-0, Tuesday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at Pioneer Arena.? Tusculum defeated L-R by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-19.
Tusculum was led by Sam Underwood (Muncie, Ind.) with a match-high 10 kills while Ashley Sarmiento (Dayton, Ohio) dished out 36 assists en route to the victory.
Meanwhile, Tusculum's Natalie Gaudreau (Venice, Fla.) and Bailie?Price (Fort Wayne, Ind.) each?finished with seven kills and 10 digs as the Pioneers?tallied a .311 hitting percentage.
Tusculum also?put a?halt?to?its two-match losing streak and won?its 14th consecutive home contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshmen middle blockers Brittany Toffan (Horseheads, N.Y.) and Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) each finished with a team-high seven kills and junior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) chipped in with 14 assists and seven digs in the losing effort.
Freshman defensive specialist Emily Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 14 digs for the Bears, who saw their two-match?winning streak come to an end.
Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Coker on the road in Hartsville, S.C., on Friday beginning at 7 p.m.? Tusculum travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on Lincoln Memorial in a league match next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
