No. 16 Wingate Volleyball Shuts Out Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-0

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman outside hitter Whitney Brinkley finished with a team-high six kills in a 3-0 loss to No. 16 Wingate in a conference match Tuesday evening in Wingate, N.C.

Wingate, N.C. - The 16th-ranked Wingate University Volleyball Team (13-0, 7-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University (10-6, 2-3), 3-0, Tuesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at Cuddy Arena.

The Bulldogs defeated the Bears by scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-17 and ran their league winning streak to 71 matches.

Anna Hilton (Hickory, N.C.) led the way with a match-high 14 kills for the Bulldogs, who have also won 36 consecutive regular season matches.

Liz Willis (Raleigh, N.C.) dished out 35 assists while Maggie Malone (Chicago, Ill.) added 16 digs for Wingate in the victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by freshman outside hitter Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) with six kills while freshman libero Emily Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) added a team-high 18 digs in the losing effort.

Junior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) chipped in with 12 assists and nine digs despite the setback for the Bears, who saw their three-match winning streak?come to an end?as well.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday at 7 p.m.? Wingate faces Shaw and Fayetteville State in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday afternoon.
