Carson-Newman Outlasts Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-2, In Volleyball

Senior middle blocker Chelsea Hill finished with 13 kills in Lenoir-Rhyne's 3-2 loss to Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday night at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Hickory, N.C. - The Carson-Newman Volleyball Team (8-6, 3-5) rallied from a set down to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne (10-7, 2-4), 3-2, in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Lady Eagles defeated the Bears by scores of 22-25, 25-13, 19-25, 29-27 and 15-13.

Carson-Newman's Carly Swisher (Fort Collins, Colo.) led the way with a match-high 18 kills while Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 14 kills and nine digs as the Lady Eagles rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by senior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.), who finished with a team-high 15 kills, while junior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) added a match-high 56 assists and nine digs in the losing effort.

Senior middle blocker Chelsea Hill (Lexington, N.C.) tallied 13 kills for the Bears, who suffered their second consecutive setback.

Carson-Newman, who hit .333 for the contest, also received 13 kills from Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and the Lady Eagles prevailed for the third straight contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on Lincoln Memorial in a South Atlantic Conference match Saturday at 2 p.m.? Carson-Newman visits Brevard for a Noon contest on Saturday as well.
