Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Holds On To Defeat Lincoln Memorial, 72-67

Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Caroline Laughter finished with 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds in a 72-67 win over Lincoln Memorial Saturday evening in a league contest in Harrogate, Tenn.

Harrogate, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (13-4, 5-3) came away with a 72-67 win over Lincoln Memorial (9-7, 4-4) Saturday evening in a South Atlantic Conference game at Tex Turner Arena.

L-R freshman guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) finished with a team-high 17 points while senior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) added 14 points as the Bears showed good balance with 10 players scoring en route to the win.

Lincoln Memorial's Lauren Cochran (Autryville, N.C.) led all scorers with 21 points and MaRanda Boddie (Springfield, Ohio) tallied 17 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double for the Lady Railsplitters.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Caroline Laughter (Hickory, N.C.) hit a three-pointer at the 15:30 mark of the second half to give the Bears their largest lead of the game at 49-37 before Lincoln Memorial rallied.? Laughter finished with 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds for L-R.

The Lady Railsplitters put together a 16-2 run to take a 53-51 advantage on a pair of free throws by Boddie with 11:04 remaining in the second half.

However, Charles gave the Bears the lead for good with a three-pointer which broke a 55-55 tie with 6:29 left in the contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne would hold serve as the Bears connected on five free throws in the final 39 seconds of the game to come out with the league road victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference game on Wednesday at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 6:00 p.m.? Lincoln Memorial, meanwhile, hosts Carson-Newman on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., as well.
