Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss To Newberry

L-R senior setter Meredith Lutz finished with 28 assists and 10 digs in a 3-1 loss Friday evening to Newberry on the road in a South Atlantic Conference contest in Newberry, S.C.

Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry College Volleyball Team (11-9, 5-5) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University (11-6, 6-3), 3-1, in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday night at Eleazer Arena. 

The Wolves won by scores of 25-23, 26-28, 25-21 and 25-18 and snapped the Bears' four-match winning streak in the process.

Newberry's Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) led the way with a match-high 22 kills to go along with 13 digs while Blair Browning (New Lexington, Ohio) added 51 assists as the Wolves avenged an earlier loss to the Bears.

L-R sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) finished with a team-high 15 kills in addition to 10 digs and freshman outside hitter Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) tallied 11 kills and 11 digs despite the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) dished out 28 assists and added 10 digs in the setback as well.

Newberry also finished with eight service aces and seven team blocks as the Wolves won their third consecutive contest.

L-R returns to action on Saturday when the Bears face Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference match in Anderson, S.C., beginning at 2:00 p.m.  Newberry, meanwhile, remains at home to take on Brevard Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
