Wingate, N.C. - The Wingate Volleyball Team (20-2, 10-2) remained in sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 3-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (16-7, 8-4) Friday evening at Cuddy Arena.
The Bulldogs prevailed by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-14 and won their 11th straight match in the process.
Wingate was led by Susie Murach (Burke, Va.) with a match-high 13 kills while Shelly Stumpff (Iowa City, Iowa) added 11 kills and Iris Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio) chipped in with 26 assists in the victory.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, sophomore outside hitters Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) and Kiaya Robinson (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished with seven kills each despite the loss.
Senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) tallied a double-double - 11 assists and 12 digs - while sophomore defensive specialist Emily Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) totaled 13 digs as well for the Bears, who saw their five-match winning streak come to an end.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face rival?Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference match on Tuesday inside Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Wingate, meanwhile, travels to Brevard, N.C., to take on Brevard in a conference match on Tuesday night?at 7:00 p.m., as well at Boshamer Gymnasium.
