Hickory, N.C. - The Catawba Volleyball Team (10-11, 7-6) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (16-8, 8-5), 3-0, in a South Atlantic Conference contest Tuesday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Indians won by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 29-27.
Catawba, which won its second straight match, was led by Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, Va.) with 16 kills while Jordan Raye (Boonville, N.C.) added 39 assists and 10 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Ashley Wells (Lovingston, Va.) finished with a team-high 15 kills while sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) added 14 kills for Lenoir-Rhyne, who suffered its first home loss of the year.? The Bears are now 8-1 at home this season.
Senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) dished out 37 assists and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 17 digs for the Bears, losers of two in a row.
Catawba also received 12 kills from Rachel Gallup (Fredericksburg, Va.) and 19 assists from Jenny Young (Roanoke, Va.) in the win as the Indians swept the season series from the Bears.
