Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (10-5, 5-2) rallied from a set down to defeat Mars Hill (9-7, 3-4), 3-1, in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Bears prevailed over the Lions by scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-19 and improved their mark to 6-0 at home this year.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman outside hitter Ashley Wells (Lovingston, Va.) led the way with a team-high 13 kills while senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) added 22 assists and 12 digs as the Bears won their third consecutive match.
Freshman setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) also tallied a double-double - 21 assists and 13 digs - and sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) finished with 11 kills for L-R en route to the victory.
Mars Hill's Marissa Wixson (Spring, Texas) led all players with 17 kills and Hannah Wilson (Fletcher, N.C.) added 25 assists and 10 digs despite the loss for the Lions.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face first-place Tusculum (12-3, 6-1) in a South Atlantic Conference showdown Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Mars Hill, meanwhile, travels to Brevard, N.C., to take on conference-rival Brevard on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., as well.
