Greeneville, Tenn. - The Tusculum Volleyball Team (20-6, 14-4) swept Lenoir-Rhyne (19-10, 11-7), 3-0, in a South Atlantic Conference match Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Arena.? Tusculum won over L-R by scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-16.
Tusculum, which won its seventh straight match, was led by Alyssa Raterman (Urbana, Ohio) with 12 kills?and Ashley Sarmiento (Dayton, Ohio) with 39 assists.
Danae Stauffer (Orrville, Ohio) added 11 kills and Caitlyn Dean (Fort Wayne, Ind.) totaled a match-high 22 digs as the Pioneers avenged an earlier loss to the Bears this season.
L-R was led by freshman outside hitter Ashley Wells (Lovingston, Va.) and junior middle blocker Kayla Morrow (China Grove, N.C.) with eight kills each while freshman defensive specialist Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) chipped in with 16 digs despite the loss.
The Bears, who saw their three-match winning streak snapped as well, also received 26 assists and eight digs from senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.).
Tusculum, as a team, finished with a .358 hitting percentage and eight service aces in the victory.
Both squads have qualified for the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Friday in Brevard, N.C.? Tusculum will be the second seed while Lenoir-Rhyne will be seeded fourth.? The official seedings and times of the matches?will be announced later this weekend by the league office.
