Morrow, Ga. - The Clayton State Women's Basketball Team (5-0) rallied to remain unbeaten on the season with a 52-48 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (4-2) Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Loch Shop Classic at the Athletics & Fitness Center.
The Lakers' Drameka Griggs (Ellenwood, Ga.) led all scorers with 26 points as Clayton State rallied from an 11-point, first-half deficit en route to the win.
L-R sophomore guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) was the lone player to score in double figures for the Bears, finishing with 10 points in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Alexis Katt (Euharlee, Ga.) and freshman guard Jordan Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) added nine points each but the Bears shot just 26 percent (13-of-51) for the contest.
A pair of free throws by Charles gave Lenoir-Rhyne a 29-18 advantage with 3:01 left before intermission and the Bears entered halftime with a 31-23 lead.
Clayton State, ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II, rallied in the second half and took the lead for good?on a lay-up by Shacamra Jackson (Marietta, Ga.) with 2:30 remaining in the game.
The score broke a 48-48 tie and the Bears were held scoreless the rest of the way as Lenoir-Rhyne saw its four-game winning streak snapped.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to action on Saturday, December 15, against Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference at home beginning at 2:00 p.m.
