Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (18-6, 10-5) stayed in the hunt for the South Atlantic Conference regular season title with an 81-69 victory over Catawba (16-7, 11-4) Wednesday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
L-R senior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) scored all 20 of her points in the second half as the Bears rallied from a 39-28 halftime deficit to take the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) came off the bench to score 17 points while junior guard Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 15 points as the Bears moved to within one game of the first-place Indians in the SAC standings.
Four players scored in double figures for Catawba, led by Chloe Bully's (Hannut, BELGIUM) game-high 21 points, despite the loss.
The Bears used an 11-0 run early in the second half to take a 46-45 lead with 13:55 remaining on a three-pointer by Sealey.?
The contest remained close until Lenoir-Rhyne strung together a 13-1 run to put the game out of reach when Sealey hit a pair of free throws for a 78-65 advantage with 2:03 left?on the clock.
Catawba's Nisha Long (Dallas, N.C.) added 20 points and Dana Hicks (York, S.C.) tallied a double-double - 14 points and 11 rebounds - but L-R shot 62 percent (16-of-26) in the second half and held a 45-29 edge in rebounding in avenging an earlier loss to Catawba.
In the next round of South Atlantic Conference games on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., Lenoir-Rhyne plays at Brevard while Catawba returns home to face Tusculum.
