Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Men's Basketball Team (5-21, 4-12) connected on 15 three-pointers en route to an 88-75 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (12-13, 8-8) in a South Atlantic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium.
Brevard's Drew Schauss (Greens Fork, Ind.) finished with a team-high 25 points and hit six three-pointers while Gaither Hendrix (Lenoir, N.C.) added 18 points and four treys as the Tornados hit 61 percent (30-of-49) of their shots including 58 percent (15-of-26) from behind the three-point line.
Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite a combined 55 points from senior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) and sophomore forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.).?
Blackmon scored a season-high 31 points while Jones tied a career-high with 24 points.? Both players shot 11-of-15 from the field.
The Tornados put the game away with 19-8 run early in the second half capped off by a pair of free throws from Hendrix for a 61-47 lead with 14:27 remaining in the game.
The Bears, who shot 56 percent (30-of-54) for the contest despite the loss, could get any closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Jermichael Tanner (Columbus, N.C.) added 16 points and hit?a pair of three-pointers?on the day for the Tornados, who avenged an earlier loss to the Bears this season.
In the next round of South Atlantic Conference games on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., Lenoir-Rhyne visits Tusculum while Brevard plays host to Newberry.
