Wingate, N.C. - The Wingate University Women's Basketball Team (14-7, 8-5) tallied a season-high in points and moved into a third-place tie in the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 91-76 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (16-6, 8-5) Wednesday evening at Cuddy Arena.
The Bulldogs' Kurie Washington (Marion, N.C.) led four players in double figures with a game-high 21 points while Nikki Burton (Charlotte, N.C.) added 14 points, six rebounds and six assists as the Bulldogs completed the season sweep of the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite a third straight double-double from junior guard Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.).? Culler finished with a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds while senior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) added 16 points in the loss.
Wingate, which shot 51 percent (35-of-69) for the game, led by as many as 28 points when Tiffany Brown (Cartersville, Ga.) connected on a three-pointer with 16:39 remaining.? Brown finished with 13 points as well.
The play ended an 11-0 Wingate run to start the second half after Bulldogs held a 57-40 advantage entering intermission.
Sophomore guard Krystal Patton (Chilhowie, Va.) added 13 points off the bench for the Bears, who saw their three-game winning streak snapped.? L-R shot just 38 percent (23-of-60) for the game and were forced into 27 turnovers on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to take on Carson-Newman Saturday in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 4:00 p.m.? Wingate hosts Tusculum Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
