Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Suffers Defeat To Armstrong Atlantic State, 3-2, In The First Match Of The Year

Lenoir-Rhyne senior setter Meredith Lutz totaled 27 assists and 10 digs despite a 3-2 setback to Armstrong Atlantic State Friday evening in the 2012 season opener in Savannah, Ga.

Savannah, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State Volleyball Team (1-0) got by Lenoir-Rhyne (0-1), 3-2, on the first day of the AASU Tournament Friday evening at the Aquatics & Recreation Center in the 2012 season opener.

The Lady Pirates defeated the Bears by scores of 25-15, 22-25, 23-25, 25-18 and 15-10 and rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the victory.

Armstrong Atlantic State was led by Amanda Jones (Marietta, Ga.) with 18 kills while Ashley Seal (Orlando, Fla.) dished out 43 assists to lead the Lady Pirates to the victory.

In addition, AASU's Jessica Santaniello (Boca Raton, Fla.) chipped in with 11 kills and 15 digs as the Lady Pirates finished with eight service aces as a team.

L-R freshman outside hitter Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) finished with a team-high 17 kills and senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) tallied a double-double, 27 assists and 10 digs, despite the setback.

Lenoir-Rhyne looks to pick up its first victory of the sesaon when it?takes on Flagler (11:00 a.m.) and Lander (2:00 p.m.) on the second day of the tournament on Saturday.
