Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Rallies To Defeat Anderson, 3-2

Lenoir-Rhyne senior setter Meredith Lutz dished out 41 assists in the Bears' 3-2 come-from-behind win over Anderson in a conference contest Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (5-3, 2-0) fell behind by two sets but rallied to defeat Anderson (6-4, 0-2), 3-2,?to remain undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

L-R prevailed in the contest by scores of 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17 and 15-13.

Sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) led the way for the Bears with a career-high 22 kills to go along with 13 digs as L-R won its fifth consecutive match.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman outside hitter Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 15 kills and 18 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Emily Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) finished with a match-high 33 digs in the victory.

Anderson, who held a 7-0 advantage to start the third set, lost despite a match-high 26 kills from Shannon Gillespie (Fishers, Ind.) and a 55-assist, 12-dig performance from Meghan Cautero (Naples, Fla.).

Lenoir-Rhyne senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) finished with 41 assists as well as the Bears won their second consecutive five-set match.

Hailey Pittman (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) also chipped in with 18 kills and nine digs for Anderson, who is still searching for its first conference win of the year.

L-R travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba in a conference match on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Anderson faces Lander in Greenwood, S.C., on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., as well.
