Salisbury, N.C. - The Catawba College Volleyball Team (4-5, 2-1) pulled out a 3-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (5-4, 2-1) Tuesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Goodman Gymnasium.
The Indians defeated the Bears by scores of 26-24, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-19 and snapped L-R's five-match winning streak in the process.
Catawba, who won its second straight match, was led by Kaitlyn Whitmer's (Ferrum, Va.) 20 kills and 18 digs while Jordan Raye (Boonville, N.C.) added 46 assists and 10 digs in the victory.
L-R freshman outside hitter Ashley Wells (Lovingston, Va.) finished with a team-high 15 kills and junior middle blocker Kayla Morrow (China Grove, N.C.) added 13 kills in the setback.
Senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) tallied a double-double - 28 assists and 12 digs - as well for the Bears, who suffered their first league loss on the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face No. 22 Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday night beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.?
Catawba, meanwhile, remains at home to take on league-foe Brevard on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., before hosting Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday beginning at Noon.
