Lenoir-Rhyne Takes 3-1 Victory Over Carson-Newman In Volleyball

Freshman Morgan Bunker tallied 12 kills and 14 digs in Lenoir-Rhyne's 3-1 victory over Carson-Newman in a conference contest Saturday afternoon at Holt Fieldhouse in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (8-5, 4-2) bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Carson-Newman (4-7, 2-4) in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday at Holt Fieldhouse.? The Bears prevailed over the Eagles by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-21.

Sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) led the way for the Bears with 15 kills while freshman outside hitter Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 12 kills and 14 digs as L-R rallied by winning three straight sets after losing the first one.

Freshman setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) dished out a match-high 39 assists to go along with nine digs for Lenoir-Rhyne, who rebounded after falling to Lincoln Memorial Friday night.

Carson-Newman's Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with 15 kills while Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) added 13 kills and nine digs in the setback.

L-R also finished with nine blocks as a team and prevailed despite 16 service aces by Carson-Newman for the match.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Limestone in a non-conference match Tuesday evening at?7 p.m. Carson-Newman hosts Lees-McRae Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., as well.
