Misenheimer, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (1-3) came from two sets down to defeat Queens (1-4), 3-2, Friday afternoon in the first match of the 2012 Pfeiffer Invitational at Merner Gymnasium for its first victory of the season.
The Bears defeated the Royals by scores of 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 15-13.
L-R was led by freshman outside hitter Morgan Bunker (Mount Airy, N.C.) with a team-high 16 kills and 16 digs while senior setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) added 54 assists and 19 digs in the victory.
Sophomore outside hitter Haley Rhyne (Statesville, N.C.) was a third Lenoir-Rhyne player to finish with a double-double as she totaled 13 kills and 19 digs.
Queens lost despite a match-high 22 kills from Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla.) and McKenzie Martin's (Houston, Texas) 55 assists and 16 digs.?
The Royals' Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C.) chipped in with 16 kills in the losing effort as well.
As a team, the Bears also finished with seven service aces in the match.
On the second and final day of the tournament on Saturday, Lenoir-Rhyne?takes on?Winston-Salem State (1:00 p.m.) and the host school,?Pfeiffer (5:00 p.m.).
