Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (10-3, 5-0) remained the lone unbeaten team?in the South Atlantic Conference after downing Catawba (7-6, 3-2), 62-48, Wednesday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
L-R junior guard Danielle Bongiorno (Wilmington, N.C.) led all scorers with 15 points including 14 in the second half while junior forward Nneka Awuruonye (Charlotte, N.C.) added 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bears to the win.
Catawba, which shot just 30 percent (17-of-56) for the contest, was led by Chloe Bully's (Hannut, BELGIUM) 14 points in the loss.
Bully also?finished?with four three-pointers while Elizabeth Merritt (Lexington, N.C.) added 11 points in the setback as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne rolled to a 26-12 halftime lead and pushed its margin to as many as 23 points at 42-19 on a three-pointer by Bongiorno with 13:03 remaining.
However, the Indians began to rally and cut the margin to six points (54-48)?on a three-pointer by Bully?at the?2:02 mark of the second half.
Lenoir-Rhyne took control again from there and scored the last eight points of the contest en route to the victory.
L-R sophomore guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) added 13 points for the Bears, who won their fifth straight game and improved to 4-0 at home this season.
