Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Stays Hot With Win Over Lincoln Memorial, 70-52

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore guard Jazmine Charles finished with a game-high 17 points in a 70-52 win over Lincoln Memorial Saturday in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (11-3, 6-0) won its sixth straight game, 70-52, over Lincoln Memorial (8-8, 1-5), Saturday evening in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

L-R sophomore guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) led all scorers with 17 points including 15 in the first half as the Bears remain the lone unbeaten team in the league.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Danielle Bongiorno (Wilmington, N.C.) added nine points as the Bears limited the Lady Railsplitters to just 34 percent shooting (18-of-53) for the game and improved to 5-0 at home this year.

Lincoln Memorial's Kalasia Green (Laveen, Ariz.) finished with a team-high nine points but the Lady Railsplitters committed 20 turnovers in suffering their third straight loss.

The Bears, who never trailed in the contest, was in control throughout as they jumped out to a 39-19 lead entering the break.

Lenoir-Rhyne increased its?margin to as many as 29 points in the second half when junior forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) connected on a lay-up for a 60-31 advantage with 11:21 remaining.

L-R also held a 47-35 advantage on the boards and connected on six three-pointers including three by Charles in the victory.? In addition, senior guard Caroline Laughter (Hickory, N.C.) added six points, seven rebounds and eight assists for the Bears.

In the next round of South Atlantic Conference games, Lenoir-Rhyne plays at Tusculum while Lincoln Memorial visits Carson-Newman.? Both league contests are scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday evening.
