Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Escapes Anderson With Road Win, 63-62

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman guard Jordan Hiatt finished with a team-high 13 points in a 63-62 South Atlantic Conference victory over Anderson Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center in Anderson, S.C.

Anderson, S.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (7-3, 2-0) pulled out a 63-62 victory over Anderson (7-5, 1-1) in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

L-R freshman guard Jordan Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) finished with a team-high 13 points while junior guard Danielle Bongiorno (Wilmington, N.C.) sank a pair of free throws with six seconds left to lift the Bears to the win.

Anderson's Alissa Diaz (Coral Springs, Fla.) led all scorers with 17 points while Breonda Shannon (Columbia, S.C.) added 13 points despite the loss for the Trojans.

Anderson jumped out to a 14-2 advantage just over four minutes into the contest but the Bears began to rally and eventually took a 29-28 advantage entering intermission.

The contest remained close throughout with 15 ties and 13 lead changes before Bongiorno gave the Bears the lead for good with her two free throws with six seconds on the clock.

L-R senior guard Caroline Laughter (Hickory, N.C.) added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds as the Bears held a 38-25 advantage on the boards and forced the Trojans into 19 turnovers in the victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Wingate, N.C., to take on Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference game on Wednesday beginning at 6:00 p.m.? Anderson, meanwhile, remains at home to face league-foe Newberry on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., as well.
