Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team moved to 2-0 on the year after defeating Lees-McRae (0-2), 75-63, Sunday afternoon on the final day of the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge at the Holt Fieldhouse.
L-R junior guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) led the way with a game-high 25 points and 13 rebounds as the Bears remained unbeaten on the season.
Freshman forward Morgan Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va.) came off the bench to score 17 points and junior guard Jenni Gust (Colfax, Wis.) added 11 points in the victory for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Lees-McRae was led by Lauren Lewis (Concord, N.C.) with a team-high 16 points and six assists in the losing effort.
Lenoir-Rhyne took control of a close contest by ending the first half with an 11-0 run for a 43-33 edge entering intermission.
The Bears led by as many as 17 points on a lay-up by Cooper with 6:57 left in the contest and Lenoir-Rhyne was able to withstand a late Lees-McRae rally to take the victory.
Charles also connected on all 10 free throw attempts and the Bears hit 35-of-44 (80 percent) as a team from the charity stripe in the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Belmont Abbey on Wednesday in Belmont, N.C., beginning at 7:00 p.m.? Lees-McRae hosts Mars Hill in its home opener on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
