Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Jenni Gust finished with 20 points in a 70-59 victory over Belmont Abbey on Wednesday night on the road at the Wheeler Center in Belmont, N.C.

Belmont, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (3-0) remained undefeated on the year with a 70-59 victory over Belmont Abbey (1-2) Wednesday evening at the Wheeler Center.

L-R junior guards Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) and Jenni Gust (Colfax, Wis.) combined for 43 points to lead the Bears to the win.

Charles finished with a team-high 23 points and hit four three-pointers while Gust added 20 points as the Bears built a 19-point lead in the first half en route to the road victory.

Belmont Abbey's McKenzie Owen (Burlington, N.C.) led all scorers with 28 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field despite the loss.? Morgan Midkiff (Mount Airy, N.C.) also scored in double figures for the Crusaders, finishing with 10 points on the night.

Lenoir-Rhyne went into intermission with a 37-26 advantage and Belmont Abbey could not get within eight points the rest of the way.

Charles also pulled down a game-high nine?rebounds as the Bears held a 45-35 advantage on the boards and limited the Crusaders to just 19 percent shooting (three-for-16) from behind the three-point line.

L-R senior forward Nneka Awuruonye (Charlotte, N.C.) chipped with nine points and seven rebounds as the Bears remained perfect on the season.

Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Queens in its home and South Atlantic Conference opener on Wednesday, November 20, at 6:00 p.m., at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? Belmont Abbey hosts Chowan on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
