Morrow, Ga. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (6-3) defeated Lander (5-5), 75-54, Friday afternoon at the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic at the Athletics & Fitness Center.
Three players scored in double figures for the Bears, led by junior guard Jenni Gust (Colfax, Wis.) with 15 points, as Lenoir-Rhyne rebounded from a setback last Saturday.
L-R junior guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) and senior forward Kierra Phillips (Gaffney, S.C.) added 13 points each and the Bears held a 53-39 advantage edge in rebounding in the win.
Lander's Ty'hesha Reynolds (Savannah, Ga.) scored a team-high 11 points but the Lady Bearcats shot just 27 percent (18-of-67) from the field in the losing effort.? Jamelia James (Bethune, S.C.) added 10 points as well for the Lady Bearcats.
The Bears trailed by a 32-30 score at halftime but scored the first six points after intermission capped off by a lay-up from Phillips and never trailed again.? Lenoir-Rhyne took complete control from there and led by as many as 23 points in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne faces seventh-ranked Clayton State, the host school, on the final day of the tournament Saturday beginning at 3:30 p.m.? Lander faces Southern Polytechnic State in the first game of the day in the classic Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
