Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry Women's Basketball Team (19-9, 11-7) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (18-8, 13-5), 64-59, Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale at Eleazer Arena.
The Wolves' Devanee Taylor (Chester, Va.) led all scorers with 18 points as Newberry swept the South Atlantic Conference series from the Lenoir-Rhyne this year.
L-R junior forward Nneka Awuruonye (Charlotte, N.C.) scored a team-high 14 points but the Bears shot just 38 percent (23-of-61) for the contest in seeing their four-game winning streak come to an end.
Four players scored in double figures for Newberry, including Haylee Lepaio (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) with 17 points, in the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 57-51 advantage with just under five minutes to go in regulation but could not hold on.
Newberry took control from there with an 11-0 run capped off by a pair of free throws from Taylor with 18 seconds left as the Wolves saw their two-game losing streak halted in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne also received 12 points each from sophomore guard Jenni Gust (Colfax, Wis.) and junior guard Danielle Bongiorno (Wilmington, N.C.) but the Bears hit just one-of-eight shots (13 percent) from behind the three-point line.

Newberry is guaranteed a home contest as well in the first round of the conference tournament on Wednesday.? Both Lenoir-Rhyne's and Newberry's games will begin at 7:00 p.m.
