Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (18-9) saw its season come to an end with a 58-54 loss to Carson-Newman (20-7) in the First Round of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Wednesday at the Holt Fieldhouse.
The Bears came into the contest as the fifth seed while the Eagles were seeded fourth.? Carson-Newman will face top-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the semifinal round on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.
The Eagles' Ishmael Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.) led all scorers with 16 points as Carson-Newman defeated Lenoir-Rhyne at home for the second time this year.
L-R was led by junior guard Jarvis Perry (Willingboro, N.J.) with a team-high 15 points while sophomore guard Denzel Dillingham (Hickory, N.C.) added 13 points for the Bears in the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne did, however, end its season with its first winning campaign in four years.
Carson-Newman's Antoine Davis (Rustburg, Va.), the 2012-13 SAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Year, added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the victory for the Eagles.
L-R saw itself down by a 45-30 score with 13:20 remaining in the contest but rallied to cut the margin to three points at 49-46 on a trey by Perry with 2:22 left.
However, Carson-Newman responded with five straight points capped off by a pair of free throws from Sanders and remained in control the rest of the way.
The Eagles held the edge on the boards (37-33) and forced the Bears into 17 turnovers and 33 percent shooting (10-of-30) in the second half.
