Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s and Women’s Swimming Teams opened the 2015-16 home portion of their schedule with a 250-249 combined victory over Mars Hill in a dual meet Friday evening at the Shuford Physical Education Center.
The Bears took the women’s competition by a 148-89 score but the men’s team fell to the Lions, 160-102.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior Leah Watts (Hickory, N.C.) won three women's events – the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.73), the 100-yard freestyle (55.21) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.16) – to lead the Bears.
On the men’s side, sophomore Noah McRea (Hickory, N.C.) placed first in three events as well: the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.36), the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.36) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.17).
Freshman Sam Melnyk (Newton, N.C.) also was the top swimmer in the men’s 200-yard butterfly (1:59.57) and 100-yard butterfly (55.06) for the Bears.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s and Women’s Swimming Teams next host Converse and St. Andrews on Friday, October 23, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
