Mars Hill, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (7-2-2, 4-1-1) made it four straight victories with a 3-1 win over Mars Hill (3-6-1, 2-4) Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at Meares Stadium.
With the match tied at one, the Bears scored two goals in the final five minutes courtesy of junior forward Sarah Pullman (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman midfielder Abigael McGarel (Morristown, Tenn.) at the 85:43 and 88:37 marks, respectively.
Pullman's goal, assisted by senior forward Kendall Smith (Asheville, N.C.), proved to be the match-winner for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior defender Jessica Feronti (Melbourne, Fla.) opened the scoring just 9:48 into the match unassisted from about 30 yards out.
Mars Hill's Abby Mills (Ross, Ohio) scored the lone goal of the match for the Lions in the 71st minute before Lenoir-Rhyne took over the final minutes of the contest.
In goal, senior Andrea Leano (San Diego, Calif.) earned the win for the Bears while the Lions' goalkeeper, Maslyn Greene (Dallas, Ga.), suffered the loss despite making 12 saves. In addition, Lenoir-Rhyne held a 25-5 advantage in shots taken in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road to face Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference match on Saturday in Anderson, S.C., beginning at 1:00 p.m. Mars Hill, meanwhile, hosts Queens in a league contest at 5:00 p.m., on Friday.
