Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Loses Close To Chowan, 78-76

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (2-3) fell to Chowan (3-1) by a 78-76 score Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

The Hawks were led by Marco Haskins (Fredericksburg, Va.) with a game-high 19 points to go along with five three-pointers while Hank Edmonds (Columbia, S.C.) added 15 points off the bench in the victory.

For the second straight game, junior guard Reed Lucas (Greensboro, N.C.) led the way with 17 points and was one of four players to score in double figures for the Bears.

Chowan was able to rally from a 61-55 deficit with 8:15 remaining in the contest to take the victory. With the score tied at 71 with 1:12 left, the Hawks' Kevin Kuteyi (Lanham, Md.) hit the game-winning three-pointer. Kuteyi finished with 14 points in the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne had a chance to win but a three-point attempt from the corner rimmed out as time expired. Senior forward JacQues Chambers (Maysville, N.C.) added 14 points for the Bears, who hit 14 treys in the losing effort.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which suffered its second straight setback, also received 12 points each from senior guard Darrion Evans (Morganton, N.C.) and junior guard Billy Bales (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and connected on 12-of-13 free throw attempts.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, November 30, when the Bears travel to Harrogate, Tenn., to face Lincoln Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Chowan, meanwhile, hosts The Apprentice School on Wednesday beginning at 7:30 p.m., as well.
