Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Endures Setback To Appalachian State, 56-40, In An Exhibition Monday Night

Boone, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team concluded its exhibition schedule with a 56-40 setback to Appalachian State Monday evening at the George M. Holmes Convocation Center.

The Mountaineers were led by Bria Carter (Spotsylvania, Va.) with 11 points and eight rebounds while both Ashley Bassett-Smith (Pickerington, Ohio) and Joi Jones (Duluth, Ga.) added 10 points each as Appalachian State ended the game on a 27-10 run to pull out the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by sophomore forward Madi Suddreth (Taylorsville, N.C.), who finished with a team-high 12 points but the was lone player to score in double figures for the Bears.

Senior center Chelsey Romero (Hampton, Va.) totaled six points and eight rebounds for Lenoir-Rhyne, who shot just 33 percent (16-of-49) for the game and committed 24 turnovers in the loss.

After scoring 19 points in the first period, the Bears were limited to just 21 points in the final three stanzas. Lenoir-Rhyne did hold a 42-33 edge in rebounding and held Appalachian State without a three-pointer in eight attempts as well.

Lenoir-Rhyne opens the 2016-17 season on Wednesday, November 16, against Warren Wilson at home at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 5:30 p.m. Appalachian State faces No. 21 DePaul in the Maggie Dixon Classic on Friday, November 11, in New York, New York, at 9:00 p.m.
